OVERVIEW
John Gray specialises in cases at the interface of law and medicine primarily undertaking high value personal injury work and clinical negligence cases.  He also has a substantial professional negligence practice, most involving cases against solicitors and surveyors.

Legal 500 Leading Junior: Personal Injury, Northern Circuit.

2022 - "He has a persuasive, charismatic style in the courtroom. Judges respect him."

2021 - "John Gray is instructed in high-value litigation, including subtle brain injury cases, permanent restriction/diminution in the ability to work, industrial disease claims, and overseas accident claims." and "He is thorough, meticulous and has an eye for detail. He is a very able Barrister and his knowledge of the rules is exemplary."

Full details of John Gray's practice and cases in which he has been involved can be seen under the individual practice areas below.

Prior to joining chambers John worked in law firms in Sydney, Australia and also in the legal department of HM Customs & Excise.

In 2009, John was the co-founder of one of the first Legal Disciplinary Practices in the country (a law firm run not just by solicitors). He continued as the co-Managing Director of that practice for 10 years whilst also remaining in Chambers at the independent Bar.  He is public access qualified and one of the few barristers nationally authorised to conduct litigation.   He therefore has a much greater insight into how solicitors run cases than many members of the Bar.

John is a Civil Medication Council Accredited Mediator having undertaken mediator training with the Academy of Experts and University of Central Lancashire.

John also holds a number of part time judicial appointments.  He sits as a Recorder in the Family Court (public and private law work), a Nominated Judge of the Court of Protection (Tier 2) and a Tribunal Judge in the Mental Health Tribunal.

John is also a member of the University of Liverpool's Research Ethics Committee and has been a student mentor at the University since 2007.
