Pupillage

We recently had the pleasure to provide an insight of life at Oriel Chambers for Miss Louise Bridle. Heres what Louise had to say about her experience:

"I recently undertook a mini-pupillage at Oriel chambers, and I can honestly say I could not have chosen a better chambers to do my first mini-pupillage. From the minute I walked into the chambers I felt welcomed by the kind-hearted receptionist named Paula. I then met my mini-pupillage supervisor Mr Tyler who immediately made me feel at ease and provided me with some excellent advice on how to make myself stand out in future applications. In the afternoon I went to the Liverpool Civil and Family court to watch my first ever case! I got the pleasure of attending an oral renewal for application of an appeal alongside Mr Rahman. This case was particularly interesting to me as the claimant was a litigant in person and I had not come across this before.

The next day, I attended court alongside Mr McCormick who was providing the defence in a medical negligence case. This experience highlighted to me how quickly circumstances can change in a court room and how important it is for a Barrister to be able to adapt. In all honesty the idea of court always appeared quite daunting to me but after this experience I could not wait to go again.

On my final day I attended court again to watch a small claims case regarding a parking fine. Where I met the wonderful Mr Berry who was so welcoming and really tried his best to ensure I got the most out of the experience. Mr Berry was very generous after the case and sat with me to discuss the journey to the bar and other long-term advice. Mr Berry gave me a remarkable insight to the lifestyle of a barrister and how two days are never the same.

In summary I had a marvellous time during my mini pupillage, my one complaint is that it went by too quickly! I still cannot believe how lucky I was to be able to attend court every day of my mini pupillage along with such prestigious and experienced Barristers. I am forever grateful to Oriel Chambers for providing me with such an amazing opportunity, I have learnt so much over the past three days. Thanks to Oriel Chambers I can now imagine myself having a career in chambers and it has motivated me to continue to work hard in my final year of University."
