Appointments

Following open competition by the Judicial Appointments Commissions, John Gray has been appointed a fee paid Judge of the First Tier Tribunal (Mental Health)(Restricted Patients Panel).

Restricted patients are mentally disordered offenders who are detained in hospital for treatment and who are subject to special controls by the Justice Secretary due to the level of risk they pose.

It is a prestigious appointment as applicants for the role must have already been appointed a Recorder and have experience of sentencing class 1 or 2 offences, substantial experience of mental health or capacity law, or the assessment of serious risk (such as dealing with public law children's cases or the Parole Board).

As well as maintaining his busy practice in Chambers,  John will also continue to sit as a Recorder and as a Nominated Judge of the Court of Protection.
